Greetings Saint John Church-Baptist Family and Friends,

Praise God for a New Year!

Last year was a challenge for many.  We cannot forget the impact of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19):  lives lost; restrictions on our movements and activities; cities across the world shut down and businesses coming to a halt.  Students were required to go to remote learning while teachers were responsible for online teaching without much preparation or training.

However, 2020 was also a blessing.  It taught us how to be thankful for jobs, family members and good health.  We learned how to praise God together even though we were far apart.  Some of us used social media, audio conference and video conference technology for the first time in our lives.  Many of us made creative adjustments in life events by holding weddings in the park, recording funerals on social media and using grocery delivery services.  Students and teachers persevered through unprecedented times.  God kept us through it all.  God is worthy to be praised for what He has done!

The New Year 2021 brings hope.  Our hope comes from trusting God and believing what we hope for will happen (Hebrews 11:1).  Here are some areas to include in your prayers as we put our trust and hope in God for 2021:

  • Hope that others come to know Jesus as Savior and Lord

  • Hope for God’s provision for those in need

  • Hope that we continue to grow spiritually in our walk with God

  • Hope that progress is made with the pandemic as more people take the vaccine

  • Hope that students and teachers are able to safely return to in-person learning

  • Hope that we are able to safely reconvene together as a congregation

Remember to thank God for His blessings.

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed, says the Lord, who has compassion on you” (Isaiah 54:10, NLT).

Keep hoping and trusting in God,

Pastor James E. Dunn & First Lady Jan S. Dunn

Finding Peace in Troubled Times

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (NIV).

As we navigate through the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic impacting our city, our state, our country, and the world, our faith and confidence is in God.  God’s peace and presence is with us.  Psalm 124:2 says it like this: “if it had not been the LORD who was on our side . . .”   It is good to be reassured that even as we experience the coronavirus pandemic, God is on our side.  God is still God; God is still on the throne.

I encourage you to stay safe and take the necessary actions to keep your family healthy which keeps the community healthy.  Our prayers are with you.  We will get through this together!
